We have updated our server and have had countless problems in the process. Some of our sites have to be totally rebuilt because of some errors. This site seems to be working fine though.

I’ve been watching the sales of Perry Yung Shakuhachi flutes for a while. I just like the way they sound and the way they look. Well last night I bought one that he had up for auction that supported UNICEF. I have to admit I almost feel bad today because it sold for 1/3 of what I thought it would sell for. Maybe I’ll just have to buy another one from him to make up for the deal I got.

You can click this link to hear the sound.

SHAKUHACHI BIOGRAPHY

He was fortunate and humbled to be the only American shakuhachi maker supported by both the Japanese and American government. In 2002, he was the first American to receive a Japan-US Friendship Grant to specifically study shakuhachi making in Japan. The money for this grant came from the National Endowment for the Arts and the International House of Japan. Their aim is to foster a better understanding between the two countries. They have been sponsoring bridge building artists for over 30 years.

While in Japan, he studied the Kinko style with Christopher Blasdel, Jin Nyodo style Kinko with Kiesuki Zenyogi, and contemporary techniques with Akikazu Nakamura. But his main Sensei for both shakuhachi making and playing was the DOKYOKU style Zen Honkyoku with Kinya Sogawa.

Today I have had a headache and I’m probably in good company. Today is day one of the new Thai parliament.

The CNS must have one wondering what the coalition may do or not do with them. Will people arrive like the Gestapo and haul them off one night into the darkness or will historians write their names for all to know the depths of their inept coupe. Time will tell but there will be a lot of aspirin sold to the general staff in the Army Px’s over the next while. They may even be living on borrowed time.

CRNN/BKKP - Straddling valleys and mountains, Phayao is a peaceful northern province full of amiable people and just enough culture and natural beauty to even captivate the interest of first-time visitors. The provincial town, or Muang Phayao, has numerous temples and enchanting communities that make it a fine detour for those driving to Chiang Rai, as we found out on a recent trip.

The four-door Tata Nano was shown at India’s biggest car show in the capital, New Delhi. It sells for 100,000 rupees, or $2,500. The Indian firm is likely to build and sell the 82,500-baht auto in Thailand.

The four-door five-seater car has a 33bhp, 624cc, engine at the rear. It has no air conditioning, no electric windows and no power steering, but it’s two deluxe models will have.

Sometimes you just luck into things when you least expect it. On a day trip out to Doi Saket to visit a friend at Chiang Mai Sky Adventure we got totally lost. We were told of a Museum at a local temple and we tried in vain to find it. Luk kept piloting our Honda Dream around until we cane across an old guy working in a paddy. With a quick “Lung” (uncle in Thai) she got his attention and the directions to our destination.

Maybe some are asking why I’m so political.

I grew up in a political household often around politician but always around political talk. My father was one of the first New Democrats in Canada. My father was a great orator, something I did not inherit from him. He supported Tommy Douglas in 1961 during the formation of the national party, . With help and support from people like my father Tommy Douglas introduced Medicare, pensions and the expansion of Canada?s social safety net to Canada throughout the 1970’s.

While most kids follow the politics of their parents I was a bit of a rebel.

The new year has come and past as has the election and nothing has changed in Thailand. I don’t for a moment think I understand the politics of Thailand, I doubt if many of the politicians know either.

What I do understand is that the elections were setup in the new constitution to make the government weak and to strengthen Bureaucracy and Military powers. That’s just downright ass backward. The Bureaucracy and the Military are supposed to work for the Government in a democracy. I don’t know where the road map for democracy came from but it’s got lots of flaws.

Today it was announced that all the parties, except the Democrats, would join with the PPP to form a coalition government. Once again the Democrats are the ugly sister holding the flowers and watching their big sisters be wed time after time. This is not going to end up with the Cinderella Democrats getting the glass slipper and going to the ball, the peasants would revolt and may even smash the pumpkin. All the smaller parties know which side of the bread has the butter on it and none of them wanted to be on the dry opposition side.

As everyone knows by know the PPP won the most seats but not enough for a numerical majority. As was planned by the Junta, Thailand will be run by coalitions for quite some time. It appears that the PPP have joined forces with the three smallest parties and now have enough seats to form the government. The PPP is also trying to pull the other 2 smaller parties into the fold which would for all intents and purposes leave the Democrats the lone opposition. If the PPP manages to pull off this all party except the Democrats coalition they could look to the electorate as if they have reconciled with all the other parties except the Democrats. This would leave the Democrats looking like thy are the ones that are hard to get along with and probably would lose the gains they have made this time in the next election.

This, all less one, majority could be strong initially, maybe even for years, and actually get some good work done that will help Thailand regain it?s footing. It should temper the PPP on the emotional TRT issues they have and input will have to be taken from parties that people under normal circumstances would not even know existed after the results of election day to cement it all together.
